Jim Bisbee stoneware potter

Jim Bisbee

Jim has been making wheel thrown stoneware pottery for 12 years, and recently moved to New Bern. His work centers on functional household utensils, like bowls, pitchers, casseroles, pie plates, and serving trays. His designs are simple and call to mind pottery used in the 18th century. He will be demonstrating throwing, decorating, and firing pottery in his studio.

Robert Hennon still life painter

Robert Hennon

The current basis for my work is the still-life genre. Interestingly, the still life was once considered the lowest form of objective painting, with the ultimate pictorial achievement being the grand historical painting. I've poked about with figures, cityscapes and abstraction and always came back to the still life. When it was not convenient to paint nudes, or go outside to paint, I would arrange a still life in a studio corner. As I worked more and more with the still life, the more enamored I became with the solidity of the objects on a table. I became fascinated with the close depiction of observed reality as it is interpreted at the time.—Robert Hennon

Barbara Brown jewerly

Barbara Brown

Barbara Brown started working with hot glass when she took a bead-making class about 6 years ago. She had been stringing necklaces since she was in her teens, but that was the extent of her jewelry making experience. Several workshops with a silversmith added forming and enamels to her line. Her Baubles are an affordable mix of colorful, sometimes fanciful glass beads, freshwater pearls, enamels, semi-precious stones, formed silver and gold-fill. She’ll be exhibiting and doing demos at Art & Materials on Middle Street.

Kathleen Meyer handweaver

Kathleen Meyer

Realizing a life long dream of weaving, Kathleen was the proud owner of her first loom five years ago. Since then, hundreds of woven yards (and three looms) later the items she creates are one of a kind. Being the senior weaver at Tryon Palace in New Bern allows her to teach the wonderful art of spinning and weaving to a new generation of handweavers.
Kathleen specializes in table linens, scarves and shawls but will custom weave your special order.

Gary Gowans oil painter

Gary Gowans

My goal is to produce the best oil paintings that I possibly can. It seems however, that no matter how well I do a painting, I always know it should be better. In order to do that I find myself looking at the work that I admire and asking myself, "Why do I like their work, and how can I get there?" I have discovered that the improvement is to be found in the "eye" and not in the hand.—Gary Gowans
